Summer Musical Theater Camp coming to Marsh
Valley |
|
We are excited to announce
an great opportunity for the youth in Marsh
Valley. We will be hosting the Missoula
Children's Theatre and having a week-long Summer
Drama Camp for 5 - 18 year olds. Missoula
Children's Theatre provides a week-long
residency "starring" 50-60 of our local students
in a full-scale musical. MCT has been
touring now for more than 30 years, visiting
nearly 1100 communities annually in all 50
states, 4 Canadian Provinces and overseas.
Their mission is the development of life skills
in children through participation in the
performing arts. Creativity, social
skills, goal achievement, communication skills
and self-esteem are all characteristics that are
attained through the participation in this
unique and educational project. Their team of
two professional Tour Actor/Directors arrives in
Marsh Valley with scenery, costumes, props,
make-up and basic lighting... everything it
takes to put on a play - except, the cast.
This week-long residency begins with an open
group audition and culminates in two public
performances. Fifty to sixty students
grades K-12, or a combination of these ages, are
cast and well rehearsed throughout the week,
learning lines, songs and choreography to
perform as an ensemble in producing a
full-length musical. All of their shows
are original adaptations of children's stories
and fairytales... a twist on the classic stories
that you know and love. This program is
supported by a generous grant from the Beverly
B. Bistline Foundation. This foundation,
started in 1998, provides grant money for local
groups and individuals to further education,
provide community entertainment, and promote
opportunities for local artists.

Ryan Shupe & the Rubberband - September 11, 2008 |
Ryan Shupe and the RubberBand are a breathtaking
blast of manic musical virtuosity. Sheer joy
seems to pour out of the speakers when they
start playing, and it may be that they sound
that way because the five members of the
band--Roger Archibald (guitar, vocals), Colin
Botts (bass, vocals), Craig Miner (banjo,
bouzouki, guitar, mandolin and vocals), Bart
Olson (drums), and Ryan Shupe (lead vocals,
fiddle, mandolin and guitar) are not only
extremely talented, they're having a great time.
The five musicians share a ravenous appetite
for all types of music, with the band's
influences including such diverse performers as
Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Bob Marley, the
Police, AC/DC and Bela Fleck. Most have dabbled
with a number of different instruments; all have
been playing since they were kids. They have
released 5 albums and are a real treat to
watch. Think of this as a musical smiley face
with occasional moments of studied calm. |

James Oneil Miner
– October 18, 2008 |
Fast becoming one of today's most popular pianists, composers, and entertainers, James Oneil Miner continues an intense recording and touring schedule. Audiences world-wide have enjoyed attending his concerts and have been impressed by his large repertoire of songs. His ability to play spontaneous requests from audience members has thrilled and amazed his listeners. In addition to taking requests, his performances often include imitating famous piano artists such as Liberace, Erroll Garner, George Schering, Floyd Kramer, Marvin Hamlish, and Roger Williams. Like his live performances, his piano recordings help to illustrate his love and enthusiasm for music from all genres and generations. Miner was recently honored with the prestigious "Instrumentalist of the Year" award from the World Wide Bookseller's Organization. |
